A stage magic show is the version of magic that holds a full room at once. The lights change, the magician walks on, and for the next 20 minutes or more everyone watches the same thing. It is a strong choice for a gala, a conference break, a large wedding or a party where all the guests are seated.
What a stage show includes
- Illusions. Bigger effects such as levitation, a person in a box, or something vanishing in full view. The photos on this page show a levitation and a box illusion.
- Volunteers. Guests are called up to help, so your own people become part of the show.
- Comedy. Many stage magicians mix magic with humour, which keeps the energy up.

Magician or illusionist?
The words overlap. An illusionist usually works with larger stage illusions. A stage magician may use smaller props as well, such as cards, ropes and rings shown on a screen or held up high. Tell the team the size of the room and the type of audience, and they suggest an act that fits.

What the venue needs
A stage or clear area. The audience faces the magician, with nothing busy behind.
Sound. A microphone for anything beyond a small room. Hotels usually have an AV team who can arrange it.
Light. Enough light on the stage that everyone sees the hands and the props.
Time to set up. Larger illusions need set up time before guests arrive. Ask the team how long when you book.
